The acting chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) Valeriu Strelet put forward three conditions that could form a nucleus for discussing and achieving the objective of swiftly forming a new government. Strelet presented the declaration of the party’s Central Standing Bureau where naming a politically unaffiliated person as Prime Minister is one of the three conditions, IPN reports.

“We need not a government of sorts, but political forces that are firmly committed to responsibly ensure governance based on three main principles and approaches. The first is that the law enforcement bodies of the state – the judicial system, anticorruption entities and regulatory and inspection bodies – should be freed from the party-oligarchic control so as to prevent their influencing by groups of interests and their use as political cudgels,” said Strelet.

The second condition is that the Premier should be politically unaffiliated and should have the last say in the formation of the Cabinet and the modification of its composition. “The Government should work based on constitutional and legal norms without constraints set by alliance agreements, having all the necessary support to promote firm, even if unpopular actions to overcome the crisis,” stated the former Premier.

The last condition is that Parliament should aim to solve the vital problems of society, not to contribute to creating these problems. “The rhythmicity and output of the legislature’s activity should be ensured by a Speaker who will be free from suspicions about business affiliation or relations with persons who built the system to make the state captive,” said the acting leader of the PLDM.

According to Strelet, these objectives could be seen in all the reform commitments of the previous governments in their relations with the development partners, but they remained at the level of intentions. “The PLDM is confident that if these conditions are put into practice, real preconditions will be created for uniting the responsible political parties around the objective of breaking the political deadlock and securing a new chance for the Republic of Moldova,” he stated.
