PLDM puts forward constitutional amendment proposals
The Liberal Democratic Party presented proposals for amending the Constitution by referendum to the alliance colleagues, the head of the PLDM’s parliamentary group Valeriu Strelet has told Info-Prim Neo.
“Our group of specialists met with representatives of the Liberal Party and the Democratic Party. We made public our proposals and views on the constitutional reform. The next days, we will discuss every article separately within the alliance so as to formulate a constitutional amendment proposal acceptable to everyone,” said Valeriu Strelet.
He stated that there will be amended a number of articles that would rebalance the relations between the state powers so that an authentic parliamentary regime is established in Moldova. He also said the procedure for electing the head of state must be simplified so that the head of state could be definitely elected and Parliament is not dissolved every time the President cannot be voted in.
“We made several suggestions, but cannot yet say that one of them will be a common proposal. When we have a proposal coordinated and accepted by all the parties, we will make it known,” said the leader of the Liberal-Democratic group.
Only the Liberal Party has so far made public its constitutional amendment proposals. The party suggested implementing the German system, whereby the head of state is elected by 51 votes, and, if this is not possible, by a simple majority of votes. The Liberals also proposed that the minimum age of the candidates for the presidency should be decreased from 40 to 35.
