PLDM-PSRM initiative to amend Constitution

The leader of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Igor Dodon announced that the MPs of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), including Vlad Filat, signed the Socialists’ initiative to amend Article 78 of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova so that it allows for the election of the head of state by the people. On the other hand, members of the PLDM said it is the Socialist MPs who subscribed to the relevant bill drafted by the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group, IPN reports.

In a press briefing, Igor Dodon presented a document that would have been signed by the Liberal-Democratic lawmakers. He noted that at the beginning of this year the PSRM called on the leaders of all the parliamentary groups to support the given initiative. Last week, the Lib-Dems answered this call. Thus the Socialists’ initiative was signed by 17 Liberal-Democratic MPs, including Vlad Filat.

According to the press service of the PLDM, the Socialists’ leader misled the people by intentionally shifting emphases. “The title page of the bill shows that the document was registered under No. 107 by the Liberal-Democratic faction on October 20. In a news conference on October 20, representatives of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group made public this legislative initiative signed by the Liberal-Democratic MPs, including Vlad Filat,” says a communique of the PLDM.

In the same press briefing, Igor Dodon said the PSRM will inform the ECHR about the opening of an insufficient number of polling places outside the country for the 2014 parliamentary elections, as this infringed many Moldovans’ right to vote, and about the fact that the national legislation obliges the citizens, including those out of work, to buy health insurance policy, this provision being considered unconstitutional.
