The Liberal-Democratic Party of Moldova officially started its campaign for the early parliamentary elections on November 28. Members and proponents of the party participated on Sunday in a public in event in the square of the National Opera and Ballet Theater. During the manifestation, party president and actual Prime Minister Vlad Filat announced party’s program and the slogan “Moldova without poverty”, Info-Prim Neo reports. PLDM engaged to develop the economy and create a solid infrastructure, to provide young and poor families with homes, to take care of socially vulnerable categories and enhance Moldova’s European integration. “In 2009, people’s vote ended a regime which made Moldova the poorest country in Europe. I’m sure you remember our slogan- Moldova without Voronin, Moldova without communists. People now trust us”, Filat said. “Fighting poverty isn’t easy, but during a year of government, we proved it can be eliminated”, he added. The Liberal-Democratic leader has stated his party saved the country from an economic collapse and will do its best to get rid of poverty in Moldova. “One year isn’t enough to repair everything the former government destroyed over 8 years. However, no one can deny Moldovans are now free citizens, with a free press, that Moldova is no longer isolated, but supported by the international community. We have a lot to do to improve people’s life. After a year of governing, we know what to do further. That’s why PLDM chose to fight against poverty, not against one political party or another”, Filat said. Prime vice president of the party, Alexandru Tanase, has mentioned the previous government avoided to admit Moldova was a poor country. During 8 years, communists have hidden the true level of poverty in Moldova. Meanwhile, PLDM engages to eliminate poverty and, as poverty and corruption are strongly related, fighting corruption will be one of Liberal-Democrats priorities, according to Tanase. “The Liberal-Democratic govern proved it deserves another mandate”, has declared party’s vice president Liliana Palihovici, also leader of Liberal-Democratic Women’s Organization. She is confident people will believe in PLDM’s engagement and will join its efforts because they don’t want to go on living in poverty. “The Liberal-Democratic Party means many things, but first of all- 1044 days of multiple and concrete actions. PLDM will mean 42 days and nights of intense campaign until the elections. It will also mean 4 years of government in order to implement the engagement we made today- Moldova without poverty”, has said Iulian Fruntasu, party’s vice president. George Mocanu, PLDM Youth leader, has stated young people will vote PLDM because only by getting rid of poverty they will be able to build a decent future in Moldova, without having to waste their best years working abroad. PLDM has been registered the 13th electoral competitor in the ballot papers.
