Tens of thousands of people came together in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau on September 7 to take part in the event “PLDM for Europe”, within which the party presented publicly its progress report for September 2009 – September 2014. According to the party’s administration, during this period the party contributed to the fulfillment of people’s dreams related to the European integration and took steps to improve people’s lives, IPN reports.

The leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat said that during five years since Moldova got rid of the Communist chains, new horizons have opened to it. “For us, the European future means a better, more equitable, efficient and prosperous country. This is the mission that the PLDM assumed in 2009 and that we are fulfilling. This mission is based on the reforms we initiated in justice, economy, agriculture, education, infrastructure, energy and transport. These reforms are elements of the European integration process and are aimed at ensuring better living conditions. Europe is not a dream, but a reality,” he stated.

He also said that four years ago the party set the objective of obtaining a visa-free regime with the EU and this promise was fulfilled in April. Now all the people of Moldova can travel freely in Europe. The PLDM also promised to sign the Association Agreement with the EU and this objective was achieved in June.

“There are two ways open to us. One way, which failed, is the way of Moldova’s opponents. This way will isolate our country and will thwart the European course. It will bring chaos, uncertainty and dramatic situations. The other way is the road to Europe. In order to maintain this way, the PLDM needs your support,” stated Vlad Filat.

He thanked Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, the ministers, lawmakers and colleagues from the government coalition for the efforts made to ensure Moldova’s European course.

The party’s first deputy chairman, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said that the country’s European perspective is the PLDM’s priority. Despite the encountered difficulties, the PLDM managed to fulfill the made promises. It managed to obtain a liberalized visa regime, to sign the Association Agreement with the EU and to increase the salaries of teachers and doctors and the pension benefits. There were repaired roads, schools and kindergartens and built aqueducts.

“I’m sure you will agree that there are only two ways out. We will either keep pace with the people’s dreams and expectations and will bring about changes or will look how others make changes that will actually lead us to a wrong way,” stated Iurie Leanca, adding that Moldova must go only towards a prosperous Europe.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman said that Moldova’s European future does not have an alternative. “Over the last five years, we showed that the European integration is not a myth or a tale, but a reality that brings benefits to the Moldovan citizens,” she said, adding that the commitments concerning the European integration made by the PLDM five years ago were fulfilled.

Attending the event, Chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs Elmar Brok said that he visited Moldova often during the last 20 years and sees the difference between the states of affairs in this period, especially over the last five years. “I come with a message of support from the greatest European leaders. The Association Agreement with the EU was signed and this accord will bring prosperity, justice and the rule of law. It is your choice. The agreement is for peace and development. This Union was created for keeping these values and nobody has the right to intervene. Moldova is a European state. Europe makes common cause with Moldova today. When we go to Brussels, we will say that Moldova needs even more support,” stated Elmar Brok..

Within the event, the PLDM launched its election campaign for the November 30 parliamentary elections.

According to organizers, the event involved about 100,000 people.
