The youth organization of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) has launched a campaign called “Adevarul” (The Truth), “to realize the events having taken place in Moldova after the April 5 elections, especially the arrests, ill-treatments and torture to which citizens were subjected, four of which died,” reads a communique by the PLDM. The drive was launched on June 26, on the International Day supporting torture victims. Teams of Liberal-Democrats will inform the population showing video proofs about the violations of human rights, about the way in which the state institutions, the police, prosecutors, secret agents humiliate and torture innocent citizens, the PLDM announces. At the same time, the teams will collect information from torture victims. Another goal of the campaign is making citizens aware of the national and European law regarding torture and other forms of ill-treatment on the part of the state. They will tell people that torture, physical and psychological violence are part of the arsenal of bullying citizens, used by totalitarian regimes and they are condemned by the international community and European justice. “Overcoming one's fear and solidarity will become the elements contributing to create a common front against physical, political, psychological torture and will contribute to oust the Voronin totalitarian regime through free and fair elections,” the Liberal-Democrats state.
