The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) will take a decision as regards its participation or non-participation in the formation of a new pro-European coalition in Parliament in the meeting of its National Political Council this week, acting chairman Valeriu Strelet said after consultations with the party’s local organizations held on November 1, IPN reports.
“The National Political Council will be convened in the near future because this is a very serious decision, taken in a politically sensitive moment, when the Democratic Party, to my mind, committed a political crime when it voted for the Government to be dismissed as it violated the alliance agreement,” said the leader of the PLDM.
Valeriu Strelt noted that the PLDM will not take part in the negotiations initiated by the Democrats until it does not reach a clear decision. There are dissenting options inside the party and all of these must be taken into account. “As the Democrats assumed responsibility for this state of chaos, they must prepare, as they declared publicly, for any scenario, with or without the participation of the PLDM in the formation of the alliance,” he stated.
Liberal-Democratic MP Maria Ciobanu said the PLDM’s decision will be taken by voting. “I do not think that the Democratic Party sincerely wants Moldova to join the European Union. At least through all the actions taken until now, they showed that they want the opposite – that they do not want Moldova to enter the European family,” she stated after the consultations with the local organizations.
The PLDM refused to take part in the first round of negotiations on the formation of the new ruling alliance after the Government headed by Valeriu Strelet was dismissed by 65 votes of the 101 MPs on October 29. The no-confidence motion submitted by the parliamentary groups of the Party of Socialists and the Party of Communists, which are in the opposition, was supported by the Democratic MPs as well.
