PLDM can deliver made promises only if it forms part of government, members

The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) can fulfill the promises made in the election campaign only if it forms part of government, said MPs of the party, who are members of the National Political Council of the PLDM. A statement signed by Lilian Zaporojan, Alexandru Cimbriciuc, Simion Grishchuk and Nicolae Olaru says the decision to join the opposition is an irresponsible one, IPN reports.

“We, Liberal-Democratic MPs of the 19th legislature, members of the National Political Council of the Liberal Democratic Party, describe the Council’s manipulated decision as irresponsible and as one that encourages the political chaos experienced now by the Republic of Moldova. The PLDM has formed part of the government for six years. Mistakes were made in the period. But there were also achieved results expected by the people. The liberalization of the visa regime, signing of the Association Agreement with the EU and implementation of thousands of local development projects (nurseries and schools, roads, water supply and sewerage systems repaired, etc.) were possible only due to the PLDM’s presence in government,” reads the statement.

The PLDM members say that during all the election campaigns the party promised to achieve the desideratum of coming closer to the EU and of identifying solutions for overcoming the political crisis. “By the decision to join the opposition, none of the made promises can be achieved. We consider that this decision was taken based on opportunist political calculations and out of the wish to avoid irresponsibility. The PLDM can regain the people’s confidence and can be useful only by taking part in the parliamentary coalition,” these say in the statement.

Seven MPs of the PLDM decided to take part in governance and to give a vote of confidence to the Government that will be headed by nominee for premiership Pavel Filip. In a meeting held last weekend, the National Political Council of the PLDM decided that the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group will not take part in governance and demanded that the seven should withdraw their signatures in support of the Democratic candidate.
