The education system of Moldova has seen a continuous degradation while the Communists have been in power. The inconsistent education polices cannot meet either the development needs of the young people or the economic, social and cultural development needs, the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) says in a communiqué, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The PLDM disapprove of the Education Code, saying that it was formulated and adopted in a hurry by the Communist MPs and represents an illiterate, incomplete, contradictory, amorphous and badly planned regulatory document that does not meet the requirements of the national and European education systems. The low salaries in the education sector cause the massive exodus of young specialists so that Moldova experiences the progressive ageing of the teaching staff, the PLDM says. “The status of the teachers discussed for over ten years is not a government priority. The rural teachers make enormous effort to keep and improve their qualifications in extremely tough conditions. The forced transformation of the village teachers into peasants is one of the hardest blows to the education system,” the communiqué says. The PLDM accuses the Ministry of Education and Youth of incapacity and irresponsibility as the Baccalaureate exams this year have failed. The Liberal-Democrats also say that the latest steps taken by the governors are aimed at destroying the education system as they closed teacher-training and medical colleges, considerably reduced the number of students in part-time education without proposing another training form and unreasonably decreased the places on contract. The PLDM says that only the decreeing of education as absolute national priority by implementing coherent and consistent polices in the area and allocating sufficient resources from the budget can revitalize the education system and rehabilitate the pre-university and university education infrastructure and the persons working in education.
