The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) called upon the pro-European and unionist parties to abandon the race not in sign of political weakness, but as a proof of political maturity by admitting that the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) is the only pro-European party with real chances of entering Parliament and taking over the parliamentary majority, IPN reports.
“The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova, being aware of the danger of perpetuation of state captivity by the red oligarchy that is now led by the Plahotniuc-Dodon duo, realizing that the Republic of Moldova, in the absence of a pro-European government, risks remaining in the gray area of the system of international relations, analyzing the real situation, including the public opinion surveys, fully appreciating the good faith of the pro-European and unionist parties, calls on these parties to withdraw from the electoral race and to support the Party of Action and Solidarity in the upcoming elections,” the party says in a press release.
“The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova, as it proved in 2011, in the elections to choose the mayor general of Chisinau, in the elections of 2016, 2019 and of this year, prioritized the national interest, decided not to contend in elections so as not to contribute to the fragmentation of the pro-European vote.”
The National Political Council of the PLDM in the middle of May decided that the party will not compete in the snap parliamentary elections of July 11 and that the Lib-Dems will urge the party’s members and sympathizers to support the PAS.
