PLDM accuses parliamentary alliance of not wanting correct presidential elections

The Liberal-Democratic MPs consider the parliamentary alliance does not want to punish by law those who will give electoral bribe before the October 30 presidential elections, IPN reports.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Liliana Palihovich, of the Liberal-Democratic group, told the journalists that the parliamentary alliance refused to accept the introduction of a bill that institutes punishment for voter corruption in the presidential election period in the agenda of the September 23 sitting of Parliament. She said such behavior shows lack of wish to ensure correct presidential elections this year.

Democratic MP Sergiu Sarbu said the accusations made by the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group represent manipulation and crass speculation, while the politicians who make such statements show incompetence and non-professionalism. The Election Code stipulates punishments for any kind of electoral presents and violations of the electoral legislation and this is true about the presidential elections as well.

“I have a message for the registered and potential candidates for President: do not at least try to corrupt the voters as punishments will be applied to all the electoral competitors. The Lib-Dems’ bill to amend the Election Code’s provisions concerning candidate registration includes a new approach and a new conception and cannot be thus examined in the middle of the election period,” stated the Democratic MP.
