PLDM about withdrawal of immunity: It is a cynical frame-up

The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) considers the withdrawal of the parliamentary immunity is a cynical frame-up against Vlad Filat and the party, which have been the permanent target of attacks on the part of different political camps over the last few years, IPN reports, quoting a statement issued by the party.

“The haste in which all the procedures were performed in Parliament, without offering the MPs sufficient time for analyzing the package of documents, shows that it is a political order and that justice is politically dependent and is applied selective. By this gesture, the real culprits who are to blame for the theft committed at Banca de Economii try to find a scapegoat and to divert public attention from the committed illegalities,” reads the statement.

The Liberal Democratic Party condemns all the discrediting actions to which the party and its leader Vlad Filat are subject. “Despite all the attacks, the PLDM remains constant and firm in its approaches aimed at establishing the rule of law and fair justice and at building the European future of Moldova as it is the party that is most interested in finding out the truth about the bank fraud,” it is said in the statement.

On October 15, Vlad Filat was deprived of parliamentary immunity by the votes of 79 MPs, at the request of the prosecutor general. Immediately after the sitting of Parliament, Vlad Filat was placed under arrest for 72 hours. He is accused of passive corruption and influence peddling.
