A play about the corruption in Moldova named “Made in Moldova”, put on by a text by Constantin Cheianu, directed by Alexandru Grecu, was performed in premiere on January 30, by Satiricus I.L.Caragiale Theater. The play depicts the life of a family who falls apart in the end because of corruption. The head of the family, a doctor with the Emergency Service, leaves to die hundreds of people because they do not bribe him, his son among them, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to director Alexandru Grecu, Constantin Cheianu's “Made in Moldova” would be the desperate cry of a man in which the flame of the faith hardly flares or who want to remain a man, although he has lost almost any hope in the triumph of the good. “The text is bare, as the message goes directly to the mind and soul of the spectator, and the characters are taken from society, Alexandru Grecu explained. “The drama of the characters is the drama of entire society, they are slammed by the scourge of corruption. Volodya, the demon with wings of an angel, is the screwed up hero, who, through his predictable death, induces a small ray of hope in our conscience converted by the harsh reality of this “jungle democracy”,” said theater critic Ion Diviza. Author Constantin Cheianu says that although it's document play, he would not like that it is perceived as only about corruption, it's a text about the society we live in and about our man in general. “When I set to write this play, I knew in general that we live in a corrupt system and society. I did not imagine the proportions of the phenomenon. The confessions of the people I talk to, involved in the act of corruption some way or another, made me scared of the society I live in and of my fellow citizens,” Cheianu specified. According to comments on Satiricus I.L.Caragiale Theater's web page, the play shows once again we are a society deeply affected by the disease of corruption, and it does not manifest itself episodically, in some sectors, but has penetrated the whole social system. “Human relations are substituted by “financial relations”, and man matters more through his “purchasing and buying power” than his humanity,” reads the site of the theater. The play “Made in Moldova” has in its casting acors Viorel Cornescu, Irina Rusu, Vasile Casu, Lilia Cazacu, Igor Mitreanu, Elena Oleinic, Ludmila Gheorghita, Valentin Delinschi, Nina Toderico, Vitalie Tapu, Ion Grosu, Arcadie Racila, Petru Bouros, Leonid Buzurnai and Iurie Popa. The play is performed as part of the Strengthening Civil Society Monitoring Capacity in Moldova (SCSMCM) Program, implemented by the Academy for Educational Development (AED) with technical assistance from the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX). The SCSMCM program is funded by the Millennium Challenges Corporation (MCC) and managed by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) within the framework of the Country Threshold Program (CTP) for Moldova.
