Actors of the National Puppet Theater “Licurici” of Chisinau brought together hundreds of Moldovan children from the diaspora, who came to see the play “The Nanny Goat and her Three Kids” in Padova, Ravena and Milan. The beloved tale written by Ion Creanga was put on stage in the three Italian cities during October 19-29, IPN reports.

According to the Bureau for Diaspora Relations, the tour popularizes Ion Creanga’s tales among children from the diaspora with the aim of strengthening their relations with parents and establishing emotional ties with the native country.

The request to present a play for Moldovan children abroad was made by teachers who work at educational centers opened in the diaspora and was reiterated on the occasion of the Diaspora Days held by members of diaspora associations, and by parents of children who took part in this year’s edition of the governmental program DOR – Diaspora*Origins*Returns.

After the plays staged in Italy, the children’s parents thanked the organizers, saying the hall was packed and the nice project brought joy and positive feelings to both the kids and the adults.

The next plays will be put on in Portugal’s Lisbon on October 27 and Faro on October 28 and in Spain’s Madrid on October 29.

The tour was organized by the Bureau for Diaspora Relations of the State Chancellery of Moldova in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research of Moldova with financial support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and with the assistance and involvement of embassies and diaspora associations. The event forms part of the Moldovan Government’s strategy for developing a sustainable and comprehensive framework of cooperation between the state institutions and the diaspora, based on confidence and joint initiatives centering on the promotion of the national culture.
