The Iasi Theater “Luceafarul” presents the première of the play “Kaytek the Wizard”, which is a Romanian-Polish co-production under the direction of Konrad Dworakowski. Is a story of a schoolboy who wants to become a wizard, and is surprised to discover that he is able to perform magic spells and change reality, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué of the Polish Institute in Bucharest.
Written by Janusz Korczak and published in Polish in 1933, “Kaytek the Wizard” is one of the most beloved books of Polish children. Kaytek has been often compared with Harry Potter though Korczak's book had been written over 60 years before. Kaytek is an autodidact whose attempt at controlling his magical powers turns into a quest for understanding his personality and the rules of society. Through Kaytek's mediation, the children “should feel the power of their will and learn to accept its boundaries”.
Konrad Dworakowski is considered one of the most talented Polish directors of the young generation. His style perfectly illustrates the notion of art for the whole family, through visual, metaphorical, intelligent and subtle theater. He promotes such values as freedom and courage.
The play was produced by the Iasi Theater “Luceafarul”, the Polish Institute in Bucharest and the Book Institute in Cracow within the Janusz Korczak Year 2012. The premiere was set for the autumn of 2012, but was proponed for force majeure circumstances.
The play will be shown in the theater’s Grand Hall on January 11, at 5pm.
