Maintaining the natural gas security supplies, diversifying the supply sources and using alternative fuels are among the measures stipulated in the Heating Season Preparation Plan for 2024-2025, which was approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday, IPN reports.
According to a press release of the Government, the document specifies the measures needed to ensure the energy security of the Republic of Moldova in the context of the risks related to the interruption in gas supplies from Gazprom.
In addition to creating and maintaining natural gas reserves, it is planned to increase the commercial capacity on the border with Romania. At the same time, supplies of fuel oil, coal and alternative fuel will be secured. The electric generators in public institutions will be checked, and those that do not have such devices will be equipped with them.
Also, the use of biomass and renewable energy sources will be promoted and the implementation of energy consumption efficiency programs will be accelerated.
A government commission was set up to coordinate the measures to prepare for the 2024-2025 heating season, which will monitor their implementation and intervene quickly in case of crisis. The commission will work with all energy sector stakeholders to ensure the continuity of energy and natural gas supply on both banks of the Nistru River.
In the Republic of Moldova, the number of final consumers of natural gas is almost 823,000, and of electricity is over 1.322 million.
