Plahotniuc and Filat remain politicians who appear most often on TV

The first deputy chairman of the PDM Vlad Plahotniuc and the chairman of the PLDM Vlad Filat appeared most often in the TV news in the period between November 15 and 22 – 43 and, respectively, 40 times. They are followed by the chairman of the PDM Marian Lupu (37), the candidate of the Party “Patria” Renato Usatyi (36) and the deputy chairman of the PDM Andrian Candu (28). The figures are contained in the monitoring report No. 5 on the coverage of the election campaign by the mass media, which was produced by the Association of Independent Press, the Association of Electronic Press and the Independent Journalism Center. The report was presented in a news conference at IPN.

Those who appeared most often in a positive context are: Vlad Plahotniuc (13), Marian Lupu (8), and Vlad Filat (7). Vlad Plahotniuc is also a leader by the number of appearances in a negative context (13), being followed by the candidate of the Party “Patria” Grigore Petrenco (8), the chairman of the PSRM Igor Dodon (7), and Vlad Filat (7).

Among the public servants who appeared most often on TV are President Nicolae Timofti (54) and Prime Minister Iurie Leanca (50). They are followed by Head of Parliament Igor Corman (14), Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim (9), deputy mayor of Chisinau Nistor Grozavu (8), and Minister of Agriculture Vasile Bumacov (7). The state functionaries were presented mainly in a neutral context, but Nicolae Timofti also appeared four times in a positive context and two times in a negative context, while Iurie Leanca appeared seven times in a positive context and four times in a negative one.

Among parties, the PDM had the largest number of appearances (247), being followed by the PCRM (142), PLDM (117), the Party “Patria” (113), PL (86), PLR (47) and PSRM (47). The PDM is a leader by the number of appearances in a positive context (66), followed by the PLDM (16), PCRM (5) and PLR (5). Among the parties that appeared most often in a negative context are the PDM (38), PLDM (14), the Party “Patria” (14), PCRM (12) and PSRM (10).

The monitoring was performed within a project financed by the U.S. National Endowment for Democracy, the U.S. Embassy in Moldova and East-Europe Foundation with the funds allocated by the Government of Sweden through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark (DANIDA).
