The ruling parties are preparing actions against civil society members who mounted the May 3 protest, said the leader of the People’s Movement “Antimafie” Sergiu Mocanu. In a news conference at IPN, he stated that according to his information, representatives of the government met after last Sunday’s protest to plan the further steps.
Sergiu Mocanu said the meeting was attended by the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vladimir Filat, who said a dangerous phrase. “Filat said: “Better a war with Russia than an event similar to the April 7, 2009 events by which he would be removed from power”. I think Filat is unable to formulate such statements himself, but the issue is discussed within their circles, including the circle of Plahotniuc. For the first time they realized that they can be ousted,” he stated.
The leader of “Antimafie” noted that the May 3 protesters included the persons who voted for the ruling parties. They came to make the government explain its acts and there is hope that this government will be made to leave. “However, they will not leave so easily. Plahotniuc and Filat will not leave as easily as Vladimir Voronin did, even if he was also made to leave by violent demonstrations. Dangers exist now as the two do not intend to concede power without fighting,” he said.
According to Sergiu Mocanu, the two politicians are preparing subversive actions against the people’s revolt, allowing Renato Usatyi to return to the country and even to run for the post of mayor of Balti because the government now faces a shortage of ‘Russian danger’. “This government maintained its power based on a ‘Russian danger’ and on their struggle against this danger. On the one hand, Igor Dodon and Renato Usatyi in the election campaign behaved as if that danger could endanger Moldova’s European course, while Filat and Plahotniuc appeared as saviors. Now they want to play again that role of saviors of the European course and to cause that ‘Russian danger’,” said the leader of “Antimafie”.
He also said that those who are in power want to prevent the protesting people from disseminating there message and to provoke a geopolitical confrontation on barricades. “To avoid this, an armistice between the pro-Russian forces and the pro-European ones is needed. This armistice would stop the confrontations between the pro-Russian forces and the pro-European ones. After we remove this mafia from power, we should continue that political confrontation,” stated Sergiu Mocanu.
On May 3, the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” mounted in central Chisinau a protest that involved over 40,000 people. The people came to protest against the corrupt government and to seek the resignation of the Government and Parliament.
