The Liberal Party is willing to put forward its own candidate for the seat of Prime Minister, but will not insist and will vote for the joint candidate of the pro-European coalition. The statement was made by PL vice president Anatol Salaru during the “Pahomi” talk-show on Realitatea TV, IPN reports.
According to Salaru, the Liberals' candidate is Dorin Chirtoaca. “The European practice is that the party with the highest number of MP seats nominates the candidate to head the government. Still, we'll suggest our own candidate. If after the negotiations he won't be nominated for Prime Minister, he will return to the City Hall and run for a third mayoral term. Chirtoaca can win one more term, especially in the second round”, said Salaru.
The Liberal MP added that if PLDM will put forward Iurie Leanca for Prime Minister, then Vlad Filat won't be able to demand a high office. “We are three parties and each one must get an office”, argued Salaru.
He thinks that PLDM leader Vlad Filat will neither remain in the shadows, nor target the Prime Minister seat. “I think Filat might run for head of state next year, after we sort the issue with the direct election of the President”, said Anatol Salaru.
The PL deputy leader is sure that his party will play an important role in the new government. “PL will be the guarantor of the European course. PL will insist more than ever and will defend more than ever the interests of its voters. We don't defend anyone's interests anymore, we're not interested”, concluded Salaru.
