The Liberal Party (PL) submitted a legislative initiative providing for the modification of Article 14 of the Law on the Special Legal Status of Gagauzia and for the exclusion of the Bashkan (Governor) of Gagauzia from the Government, IPN reports.

In the informative note to the bill, the Liberal MPs argue that the Bashkan has at his disposal a complete system of legal means for fulfilling his obligations and the need to hold the position of ex-officio member of the Government is now unjustified.

According to the PL, the direct involvement of Bashkan Mihail Formuzal in the illegal organization of the February 2 referendum was aimed against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova. Thus, he should be removed from the Cabinet.
