The Liberal Party (PL) called upon the authorities to make public and motivate the invitations to Chisinau made to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Rogozin and Patriarch Kirill. The PL describes these visits as humiliating, IPN reports.
“Patriarch Kirill’s visit is occasioned by the 200th anniversary of the foundation of the Bishopric of Chisinau. It thus results that we accept the occupation as this bishopric appeared as a result of the occupation,” the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu told a news conference.
PL deputy head Valeriu Munteanu said that Patriarch Kirill cannot come to Moldova on a visit if invited only by church officials. There should be an official invitation from the authorities, the Premier or the head of state. “We want to see that invitation made to the Russian Patriarch and Russian Deputy Prime Minister, including the motivation. We want to know why they should come namely in September,” stated the MP.
Dmitri Rogozin will come to Chisinau on September 2 and will go to Tiraspol on September 3. Patriarch Kirill of Moocow and All Russia will visit Moldova on September 7-9. He will take part in the festivities that will be held to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the foundation of the Bishopric of Chisinau.
