The Liberal Party (PL) put forward a new bill that bans voting using Soviet-type passports, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the PL.

The bill provides that the Moldovans will be able to vote only with national identification papers, given that the identity cards are issued free of charge the first time.

Liberal MP Valeriu Munteanu said the bill is designed to fill a legislative gap allowed by the former governments, which aimed to fuel nostalgia for the Soviet past, and to bring the administrative processes back to normality.

A similar bill proposed by the PL was adopted by Parliament, but was later repealed.
