PL opens election campaign at Soroca fortress
The Liberal Party will start its campaign for the November 28 early legislative elections at Soroca fortress on October 24, the party’s deputy chairman Mihai Ghimpu announced in a news conference held to mark the party’s entry into the European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party (ELDR Party), Info-Prim Neo reports.
The leader of the PL, who is Moldova’s Acting President, said he cannot yet give more details about the party’s electoral program, but stressed the PL’s priorities are the social policies aimed at eradicating poverty and ensuring economic freedom and the people’s freedom. Mihai Ghimpu stressed there is a wide discrepancy between the living standards in towns and in villages.
On October 13-15, the PL became a fully-fledged member of the ELDR, which has the third largest group in the European Parliament, after the Group of the Christian-Democrats and the Group of Socialists, said the PL’s vice chairwoman Corina Fusu.
The AMN also forms part of the ELDR. The Christian-Democratic People’s Party is a member of the European People’s Party, while the Liberal Democratic Party has the status of observer within the same party. The Democratic Party is a member of the Socialist International.
