The National Council of the Liberal Party in its December 15 meeting unanimously decided in favor of the formation of the Unionist Movement of the Republic of Moldova. The Liberals call on all the unionists from politics and civil society to join the Movement so as to contribute to securing the reunification of the Romanian nation and the European integration, IPN reports.
In a posting on Facebook, the PL said the Unionist Movement will promote the merger. If they want, they could keep the identity of the party, but all the actions will be taken in concert, including the participation in the presidential, parliamentary and other kinds of elections.
The Liberal leader Dorin Chirtoacă, in the opening of the meeting of the National Council, said the same strategy is to be applied in the discussions with the pro-European parties that have the same objective as the unionists, possibly less the union. The former mayor of Chisinau noted the people expect the unionist and pro-European forces to unite and not just to assert themselves, but to take common decisions in particular moments, which would help achieve a majority in all the entities.
“We must reach a formula by which no vote would be lost, both on the part of the Unionist Movement and on the part of the pro-European parties, so that the issue because of which we often struggle between us is not speculated by the left, including the pro-Russian forces. They ultimately manage to come to power and control the state institutions, while we remain on the outside,” stated Dorin Chirtoacă.
Invitations to join the Unionist Movement will be officially passed on to all those interested.
