The Liberal Party (PL) reacted after the Party of Socialists on November 21 announced that they plan to collect over 1 million signatures in favor of the switchover to the presidential form of government by the start of February. The Liberals said that after the Socialists wasted 9 million lei on the referendum held in China, which failed, they are ready to spend another 70-80 million lei from citizens’ pockets for satisfying another whim of Dodon, which is to have absolute power, IPN reports.
The PL says Igor Dodon and the Socialists became again courageous and announced the initiation of a new referendum, this time a national one, by which to change the form of government in Moldova from parliamentary republic to the presidential one. “We consider that these obscure plans designed in the Kremlin’s laboratories have a well-defined goal – to kneel down the republic before Putin. We consider that Dodon and his Socialists haven’t yet learned the lesson,” the party says in a press release.
The PL reminds that Igor Dodon proposed one more consultative referendum that was to take place on September 24, but this was declared unconstitutional following approaches made by the Liberals, while the November 19 referendum held in Chisinau failed owing to the courage and dignity of the citizens who refused to take part in this farce.
The Socialists on November 21 announced that so far they have collected over 300,000 signatures in favor of the switchover from the parliamentary republic to the presidential form of government in Moldova and anticipates that the figure will rise to over 1 million at the start of next February. According to the Socialists, when the Constitution and the legislation stipulate the necessary powers, it will be possible to restore order in the country and to root out crime and corruption.
