PL: Candidate for Premier will be fielded after parliamentary coalition is formed

The chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu said they cannot speak about a candidate for premiership until a parliamentary coalition is not formed. The statement was made after the consultations with President Nicolae Timofti, held with the aim of designating a candidate for Prime Minister, IPN reports.

“The candidate for Premier must be supported by a minimum of 51 MPs so as to be able to fulfill the government program that will be assumed by the Cabinet. There are many candidates, but a parliamentary majority is first needed,” said Ghimpu.

The leader of the PL also said that Moldova is in a difficult situation now that the winter is coming and an agreement with the IMF wasn’t signed. “We now have no alternative to an alliance between the PL, PLDM and PDM. Without such an alliance, the Republic of Moldova will move closer to the edge of the precipice. A solution is for the PLDM to put the people’s interests and the European course above everything and to leave anger aside. There is now no alternative and we thus must admit that we all make mistakes,” stated the Liberals’ leader.

He ruled out the possibility of forming a government in concert with the PCRM.
