The Liberal Party (PL) considers that Moldova’s future can be nowhere else than in the European Union, while those who are now in the pay of the Kremlin and rejoice at the results of the UK referendum, demanding that Moldova should abandon the path to Europe, are against a prosperous future and against the national interest, the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu says in a statement, quoted by IPN.
“We followed attentively and with interest the election campaign in the UK that preceded the referendum, which will decide the membership in the EU. We took cognizance of the preliminary results of the plebiscite, which regretfully give the victory to the camp “Leave”. We express our respect for this democratic exercise and for the option of every Brit. But we ascertain that this result represents a consequence caused by the populist and irresponsible forces,” says the statement. According to Mihai Ghimpu, it is important for the UK to remain a partner of all the EU member states and the EaP countries, including Moldova.
“The Liberal Party considers that Europe goes through a bad patch, but we are sure that the European Union will continue to extend because there are no alternatives to it on the European continent. We are convinced that the other 27 member states of the EU will find the necessary arguments to break this impasse and the economy and stability of the EU will not be affected.”
Slightly over half of those who took part in the June 23 referendum voted for the UK to leave the EU, according to the preliminary results.
