Pirkka Tapiola: There are signs of political influence on state institutions

The Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola said there are signs showing that political influence is being exerted on the state institutions. He made such a statement in the program “Interpol” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.

According to the European diplomat, the government of Moldova has a lot of work to do to restore the people’s confidence. “I saw that concrete steps were taken to adopt particular laws. But it is not enough for these laws to be adopted. It is also necessary to implement them. It is necessary for them to work. In this regard, the government has a lot to do to show that it cares about the people and to implement reforms,” stated Pirkka Tapiola.

He underlined the necessity of ensuring transparency in the trial of ex-Premier Vlad Filat. “We follow attentively all the resonant cases here and want the human rights to be respected. We are bewildered why the trial of Vlad Filat is held behind closed doors. A lot of people inquire about the case of Filat and I think that this process must be a public one,” said the Head of the EU Delegation in Chisinau.

According to him, the European Union maintains its previous position that the external financing will be unblocked only after a new program is signed with the IMF and wants this thing to happen as soon as possible.

Asked what he thinks about ex-European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso’s participation in the Business Forum staged by the first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc, Pirkka Tapiola said it was a private visit that concerns Barroso only.
