The report produced by Kroll company was only a first, but fundamental step. What is important now is to continue the investigation and to make concrete effort, the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, Ambassador Pirkka Tapiola said in an interview for Radio Free Europe, quoted by IPN.
The diplomat underlined that it is important to find a way, by liquidating the three banks, to protect the deposits and to transfer these to other banks. The investigation should be continued so as to determine how the money was stolen and to recover it.
Pirkka Tapiola said the precondition for considerable amounts to be collected into the state budget is to ensure the macroeconomic and budgetary stability. “Now everyone should focus on the rehabilitation of the economy so as to provide safety for each investor that wants to support the budget of the Republic of Moldova. A good example in this regard is to obtain an agreement with the International Monetary Fund because any accord of this kind represents in fact a reform program,” he stated.
As to the effect of the recent protest movements on governance, the ambassador said it’s clear that this way the people express their opinions and it’s as clear that the Government, together with the Prime Minister, undertake to resolve these issues. Pirkka Tapiola noted that in a democracy the peaceful public demonstrators are a basic right which needs to be respected.
