Pirkka Tapiola: All those involved in theft of US$1 billion must be held accountable

The trials related to the theft of the US$ 1billion must be transparent so that the people are provided with answers to questions, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola stated in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

“All those involved in the theft of the US$1 billion must answer. The investigations started, but all these wrongdoings should be investigated in a transparent way. It is important for the population to find answers to their questions and everyone knows what and how it happened. The trial with Filat wasn’t an open one and the people remained with many unanswered questions,” said the diplomat.

Asked if he has confidence in the state institutions of Moldova, Pirkka Tapiola said for the EU it is important that the people have confidence in these institutions. “We are interested in the citizens of this state and our confidence depends on their confidence. I represent the interests of the taxpayers of the European Union. Our mission is to encourage the development of this state so that the EU has a strong neighbor,” he stated.

Pirkka Tapiola noted that the discussions in the Moldovan political sphere are “very geopolitical”, but the political class should focus on the country’s reformation.
