Pirita local council seeks removing peacekeeping post situated near Vadul lui Voda

{Repeat from January 3} The local council of Pirita village in Dubasari district demands that the central authorities take measures to remove the peacekeeping post No. 9 located near Vadul lui Voda town in several days. In an extraordinary meeting on January 2, the councilors decided to make such an approach to the Acting President, the Prime Minister, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Russian Embassy and other institutions. Mayor of Pirita Iurie Soltan has told Info-Prim Neo that the councilors also demand that the Russian military man who wounded fatally a young man from his gun be held accountable in accordance with the law. The councilors accepted the locals’ request to stage a peaceful protest at the place of the incident on January 3 and 4. The protesters intend to sign a resolution that will be sent to the authorities. On January 1, a Russian officer of the peacekeeping forces serving in the Transnistrian region shot mortally a local who was driving a car along a bridge on the Nistru River. Vadim Pisari from Pirita died in the hospital shortly after he was operated. Under the agreement concerning the principles of peacefully settling the Nistru armed conflict of the spring-summer of 1992, a Security Zone was instituted along the Nistru River. In accordance with a decision by the Joint Control Commission, which was set up to achieve the objectives laid down in the agreement, joint peacekeeping forces were dispatched to the area. Moldova pleads for replacing them with internationally-mandated civil forces.
