A helicopter with four crew members on board, including Moldovan citizens, who took part in an operation to extinguish a wildfire, crashed into the Aegean Sea off the Greek island of Samos on July 13. Two Moldovans survived and receive the necessary medical assistance. The information was confirmed for IPN by Daniel Vodă, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
According to the Ministry’s press service, the Greek coastguard confirmed the identity of the two Moldovans who survived the accident. “The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Greece is monitoring this case and is permanently in touch with the responsible local authorities, continuing offering expert consular assistance within its legal power,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration posted on social media.
The body of the helicopter pilot, a Romanian national, was recovered. The search to locate the other crew members was completed.
Update: The Civil Aviation Authority said the pilot who died in the helicopter crash in Greece was Moldovan. Besides the Romanian nationality, he also had the nationality of the Republic of Moldovan. The other two Moldovan crew members are in the hospital and their state is satisfactory. The information was confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
