Pieces of advice from firefighters for Christmas without fires and injury

Firefighters warn the population to be prudent and careful when decorating the Christmas trees and homes so as to avoid fires and injury.

Press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Diana Turcan has told IPN that it is recommended placing the fir tree in a separate, cold room, on a fireproof base, no way on a carpet or wooden floor, far from curtains, stoves, radiators and other objects that produce heat. Decorating the tree with candles and defective or handmade lights and other objects is not allowed as these can cause fires. The lighting should be checked before being put on the fir tree.

Increased attention should be paid to pyrotechnical products as these are also a source of fire. Firecrackers should be bought only from specialized shops and these should be used in strict compliance with the instructions.

The people are urged to be cautious also when they leave home for the holidays and make sure that the fire in the stove is nor burning and all the electrical appliances are turned off. The children must not be left unsupervised.
