When they go to school in the first grade, the children find themselves in a new environment and get a new status, of student. To help the children to better integrate and achieve results, the parents should daily show sincere interest in school activities by having discussions and checking the homework. The parents should also talk to the teacher to see the child’s results and his/her relations with mates. The parents should not compare their children with other students as each of them is a personality, but they should be permanently motivated to study. The parents should bear in mind that they are a model of perseverance for their children. These and other pieces of advice were formulated by teachers in the first edition of the forum “Come with us in the first grade, dear parents and children!” that was staged by the General Division of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport of the Chisinau Municipal Council, IPN reports.
“We thought we can be useful to you and thus decided to launch this educational forum,” stated the Division’s head Rodica Guțu. According to her, the attending parents can find out answers to many of their questions concerning the school future of their children and the stages they will have to cover. The teachers are in a process of continuous formation as they prepare generations that represent the future.
Attending the event, acting mayor of Chisinau Ruslan Codreanu welcomed the parents’ interest in the particularities of schooling, noting this should make sure that their children go to school with pleasure and study well. He assured the grownups, including those of the local public administration, will ensure the education process for children from the municipality takes place in accordance with the current requirements.
The event brought together over 200 parents whose children will go to the first grade in autumn. Specialists told them about psychological features of the adjustment of children aged 6-7 to the school environment and what they and the future first grader should know.
Ana Vartic, acting head of the Division’s Preschool Management Section, said at the age of seven the child should be able to independently use materials to write and paint, should put on the shoes themselves, should wash their hands and accept and fulfil responsibilities alone or in a group. The development of language is very important. The children should know the name, surname, year of birth, parents’ name, the domicile address and phone number. They should also know the seasons and days of the week, how to write a small story and to correctly use simple sentences in speech, to recite poems, to draw and should have an active vocabulary.
Teacher Carolina Locoman said the students should be encouraged to be patient, consistent and perseverant and should not be reproached or constrained. The students should be praised for their results and learning should be turned into a pleasant and comfortable activity.
Teacher Stela Baltag noted the students should have decent clothes and appearances. The school uniform is not mandatory, but there are many arguments in favor of introducing this. The clothes should be comfortable and look esthetically. A classical dress code is required in almost all the education institutions – shirt, blouse, skirts, trousers, etc. Others allow wearing T-shirts and sweaters.
The teachers told parents about the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle and of extracurricular activities, about the correct division of the student’s time, etc.
