Pictures of Moldova’s natural heritage to be displayed at international exhibit in Strasbourg

Two photographs of Orheiul Vechi will be presented at the 14th International Photographic Experience of Monuments contest that will take place at the Palace of Europe in Strasbourg on December 5, Info-Prim Neo reports. The first picture, “Saint Cross of Orheiul Vechi”, was taken by the 16-year-old Sorinela Renita, while the second photo, “Winter Landscape at Orheiul Vechi”– by Adrian Musteata. “This is the second time that I participated in the national stage of this contest. I submitted 42 pictures taken all over Moldova. The photograph for me is more than a passion. It is my way of expression,” said Sorinela Renita, who is a ninth grader at the Romanian-English academic high school “Mircea Eliade” in Chisinau. The awarded photographs will be published in the famous catalogue “XIV-e Experience Photographique Internationale de Monuments 2009/ XIV International Heritage Photographic Experience 2009”. The International Photographic Experience of Monuments contest was launched in Strasbourg in 1996. In Moldova, the national stage of the contest was held for the third time. Ten young amateur photographers took part in the contest this year. They presented over 120 pictures of Moldova’s cultural, historical and natural heritage. “As Moldova aims to become part of the European community, it is very important that we get involved in different European projects to represent our country,” said Ion Stefanita, coordinator of the project-contest, scientific fellow of the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History. President of the jury Alexei Colabneac, plastic artist and head of the graphic works department of the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts, said that the artistic merit and importance of the monument for the country’s cultural heritage were the main criteria used for assessing the photographs that participated in the contest. The national stage of the contest is organized by the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History in cooperation with the Centru district head’s office of Chisinau and the exhibitions center “Constantin Brancusi”. The 120 pictures presented will be on display at the center “Constantin Brancusi” until May 13.
