Physical Education University’s pool to be modernized

The swimming pool of the State University of Physical Education and Sports, located next to the Government Building, which will now belong to the Moldova State University, will be modernized. A sum of 10 million lei will be allocated for the purpose, Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun was quoted by IPN as saying in a news conference.

According to the minister, additional funding will also be provided to sports federations, in connection with the 2024 Olympic Games.

A new Sports Law will be adopted this year to solve a set of systemic problems that exist today, including the fact that athletes in Moldova do not have free health insurance, do not have the necessary social protection and others. The bill was already drafted and is to be approved. A Sports Strategy will also be adopted, which will include the element of mass sports.

Dan Perciun noted that up to €2 million will be invested in the Republican Sports High School for its renovation as this institution is in a deplorable state, but it is the main institution that trains future European and world champions.

According to the minister, the athlete allowance will be reviewed and possibly increased.

For the first time this year, sports medicine services will be offered for athletes who will compete in the Olympic Games. Five doctors will be employed at the Olympic Teams Training Center to satisfy the needs of athletes.

The way of financing sports schools will also be reviewed so that it will be more transparent.
