Photovoice exhibition at Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family

A photovoice exhibition themed “Beyond Barriers”, which was staged by young persons with disabilities from all over Moldova, was opened in the hall of the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family on November 26, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Ministry's press service. The exhibition includes 50 photographs. It was set up as part of the Ten Days of Social Inclusion drive held between November 22 and December 3. Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga spoke about the images that present the obstacles and difficulties faced by the persons with disabilities every day and that represent an argument for mobilizing and sensitizing the people to the existent problems and for building an inclusive society. The exhibition will continue until November 30. Photovoice is a methodology mostly used in the field of education which combines photography with grassroots social action. Subjects are asked to represent their community or point of view by taking photographs. It is often used among marginalized people, and is intended to give insight into how they conceptualize their circumstances. As a form of community consultation, photovoice attempts to bring the perspectives of those "who lead lives that are different from those traditionally in control of the means for imaging the world" into the policy-making process. The event was organized by the Center of Legal Assistance for Persons with Disabilities in concert with the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family, with financial support from the OSCE Mission to Moldova, as part of the Initiative for Ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
