About 40 photographs taken by persons with mental disabilities, who were deinstitutionalized from a rest home located in Orhei, were displayed at the Municipal Library “B. P. Hasdeu” in Chisinau on December 2, IPN reports.
Executive director of the public association “Keystone Moldova” Ludmila Malcoci said the exhibition entitled “World as I see it” was mounted in partnership with the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family and is the sixth event of the kind staged so far. “The goal of this exhibit is to showcase the abilities of the persons with disabilities and to show that these people have the same values,” she stated.
This year’s exhibit is special because the photos were made by the Photo Voice method, which is every picture is accompanied by text. “These activities helped the authors to express their thoughts, feelings, dreams, attitudes and needs through the agency of photos. The photo can become an instrument for promoting the rights of the persons with disabilities,” said Ludmila Malcoci.
Vasile Cusca, division head at the Ministry of Labor, said that by such events the authorities, in concert with civil society, promote the social inclusion of the disabled persons. “This exhibition presents the abilities and possibilities of the persons with disabilities. By it we help these persons realize their potential,” he stated.
The eight authors of the photos received diplomas of merit and by a wall calendar with the exhibited pictures. After the opening of the exhibit, they went to have lunch at a restaurant in Chisinau.
The photographs will remain exhibited at the Municipal Library “B. P. Hasdeu” until December 7.
