An exhibition of photographs that presents nine historical monuments accompanied by a study of each of them was mounted at the Museum of History of Chisinau City as part of the European Heritage Days. The exhibition consists of over 120 representative photos that can be seen during two weeks, IPN reports.

According to the director general of the Agency for Monument Inspection and Restoration Ion Ștefăniță, the exhibition entitled “Layer of color, cultural levels, chromatics of Chisinau across the centuries” reveals the colors used on the fronts of monuments. The idea appeared after the subject concerning the colors chosen for the façade of the Organ Hall was intensely discussed in the public sphere. “After this, we decided to discover information about the layers of color, the facades and chromatics of all the cultural monuments that form the historical nucleus of Chisinau, from the 186 quarters,” he said.

The research showed there were up to 26 layers of different colors on some of the facades, from red and beige to white or blue. “It was interesting to learn that the chromatics of the façade of the Urban Mansion situated at 33 Octavian Goga St included 14 layers of color. The Zoti Urban Mansion located at the intersection of Armenească St and Alexandru cel Bun St also kept the authenticity of the previous house will all the layers of paint put there across the centuries. The green, blue and red colors can also be seen on the Report House situated at 29 Alexandru cel Bun St,” stated Ion Ștefăniță.

Within the same exhibition, photos from different periods of time showing constructions with white chromatics were displayed on a separate board. According to Ion Ștefăniță, Chisinau started to be associated with a white city because of these. When Moldova declared its independence, new buildings appeared and these integrated into the historical part of Chisinau with own chromatics.

Entrance to the exhibition is free of charge. The Museum is open from Monday through Friday, from 10am until 5.30pm.
