Phone conversations between Moldova and Romania will be charged at national tariffs on Dec. 1

On December 1 this year, in connection with the celebration of the Great Union Centenary, the phone conversations between Moldova and Romania will be charged at national tariffs. A declaration to this effect was signed on November 22, after the joint meeting of the Governments of the two states, IPN reports.

“It is a first symbolical step. We want to have a common communication area. We want our citizens not to feel they travel from one country to another and to be able to speak on the phone without paying roaming tariffs,” Prime Minister Pavel Filip stated in news conference after the joint meeting.

The Republic of Moldova and Romania pledged to prepare the Treaty on the abolition of roaming fees between the two countries in the immediate period. When this is signed, the citizens of Moldova and Romania who travel occasionally to the neighboring state will have access to roaming services for calls and SMSes at national tariffs, while the Internet charges will be reduced to the European common tariffs. The authorities assured the elimination of tariffs will not affect the quality of roaming services.
