PGO’s reaction: “Response will be proportional to gravity of attacks”

The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) reacted to the criticism leveled at it, including today. “The current government poorly understands the rule of law principles and there is now no use making comments. The PGO’s response to any attack on its institutional and procedural independence will be proportional to the gravity of such attacks,” the institution noted in a press release that is quoted by IPN.

In a news conference after the Supreme Security Council’s meeting today, Maia Sandu said a number of persons involved in abuses, illegalities, grand corruption left the Republic of Moldova and are wanted. The prosecution service does not take the necessary steps to bring back and hold these persons accountable.

Also today, the new minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco announced the registration of a bill that provides for the dismissal of the prosecutor general before the expiry of the seven-year term for which this is appointed.
