The control and monitoring group instituted by the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) pronounced on 19 of the 38 cases that were presumably started by political order. The criminal proceedings against Ludmila Kozlovska, Valentin Eșanu, Nina Cereteu, Andrian Borș and David Davitean were dropped as was the charge of murder attempt on German Gorbunțov, with the remand detention being cancelled. The wanted case against lawyer Ana Ursachi was also dropped, IPN reports.
According to the PGO, a sentence was passed to drop the criminal case started against Valentin Eșanu over tax evasion and money laundering. After the prosecutor withdrew the charges, acquittal decisions were issued in the cases of Iurie Bolboceanu, Alexei Alexeev, Valeriu Cucu and Valentin Eșanu (over arbitrariness and trespass). The sentence to acquit Sergiu Cebotari was judged legal and wasn’t challenged by prosecutors. The prospectors also dropped the charges and asked to acquit Igor Borș.
The PGO launched the procedures for reviewing the criminal proceedings against Olga Punga and for suspending the serving of the sentence. It also intervened in favor of convicted combatant with a disability degree Arslan Safarmatov, asking to give him a suspended sentence, but the Supreme Court of Justice rejected the appeal. The Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office is examining Safarmatov’s appeal to review the case.
The charges against Domnica Manole and Dorin Munteanu were fully dropped, while Gheorghe Balan and Victor Muntean were erased from the list and their names are not mentioned in any of the investigations handled by the PGO. The political character of the criminal proceedings against Sergiu Cosovan and Oleg Gonța wasn’t confirmed.
The courts of law are to soon pronounce on the other pending cases. The hearings in this were put off owing to the special working regime of the courts.
By an order made by the prosecutor general in February, a control and monitoring group was set up following a PACE report, statements made by NGOs, civic activists, representatives of political parties and the formulated requests, based on which a number of criminal proceedings were instituted by political order. The lawyers for the involved persons were asked to furnish the prosecutor general with synthesized information, arguments and evidence to confirm the political charter of the cases and the alleged violations committed by the investigation bodies, prosecutors and judges.
