The General Prosecutor’s Office (PGO) has announced it was transferring the investigation into the homicide of a man in Vulcănești, Nisporeni, from the district prosecutor’s office over to the Police’s Crime Investigation Directorate.
The PGO said in a press release that on the night of the the homicide the police apprehended a suspect, who was later put under preventive arrest for 30 days. Four other people “who were present at the scene” are wanted by the police.
Following a demonstration on Friday outside the PGO building, a group of Vulcănești residents was received by the PGO leadership, who promised to oversee the case. While “no information has been identified to confirm the veracity of the allegations made by the protesters”, a reference to claims that local cops and prosecutors had been bribed to stymie the investigation, “the Prosecutor General has transferred the case in order to avoid any degree of mistrust”.
At the same time, the PGO promised to investigate the corruption allegations.
