The Prosecutor General’s Office reiterates that it will not have polemics with culprits and will not respond to attempts to involve the institution in useless confrontations. The comment was made in connection with the open letter sent by the suspended chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Viorel Morari to the prosecutor general, IPN reports.
“The whole society learned about the results of the inspections carried out at the subdivision that was managed by Viorel Morari, about the quality and product of work of the former chief prosecutor of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office and of some of his inferiors. Complaints from people over the abuses committed by these “prosecutors” continue to come to the prosecutor general. The institution daily receives such complaints and the number of these goes up,” the PGO said in a press release.
It noted this fact confirms the illegalities identified during inspections and the reasonableness of the decisions taken in relation to those in charge and dispels all myths about the personal, professional and managerial qualities of these. The current administration of the PGO will continue to persevere in reforming the system and in restoring its legal and normal work.
In an open letter addressed to Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo, Viorel Morari says that on February 17 he filed an application by which he asked for an audience with the prosecutor general so as to furnish him with information about the abuses committed by inferior prosecutors and to prevent these from misleading. But he received no response to his request and thus decided to address a letter to him. Another reason for this decision is the PGO’s reaction to his public appearances as a result of which he was labeled as offender who is expected to provide evidence in court and to prosecutors. He noted that Stoianoglo is not an independent and impartial prosecutor general.
Viorel Morari was arrested on January 10, being later charged with abuse of power, falsification of public documents and interference in prosecution. The case was sent to court on February 12. Also then, the PGO announced that one more criminal case was started against Viorel Morari, over unjust enrichment and money laundering in especially large amounts by using the position. Morari was released from detention and placed under judicial control. Viorel Morari pleads not guilty.
