The Prosecutor General’s Office requested Parliament to allow lifting the parliamentary immunity of the Shor Party’s MP Marina Tauber. The announcement was made at the start of the Parliament sitting by Speaker Igor Grosu. It goes to the acceptance of financing from an organized criminal group in the Balti snap mayoral elections that involved Tauber, IPN reports.
Speaker Grosu noted that the PGO requested to lift the immunity of the MP for this to be arrested and the criminal case started over the violation of the rules of using financial resources of political parties or electoral funds to be sent to court.
In the second application, Marina Tauberis is accused of consciously accepting financing for the political party, the initiative group or the electoral contender from an organized criminal group, including between July 13, 2022 and May 1, 2023. The third application to lift the immunity makes reference to falsification of reports on election campaign funding during the snap local mayoral elections held in the municipality of Balti on November 21, 2021.
The applications signed by acting prosecutor general Ion Munteanu were transmitted to the Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities, which is to decide the examination procedure.
This is not the first time that the prosecutors asked to strip MP Marina Tauber of immunity. In July 2022, the MP was arrested and charged on two counts – conscious accepting of financing for the Shor Party from an organized criminal group and falsification of the party’s financial management report for the first half of last year in an attempt to hide the accumulated amount of money and the costs. Currently, MP Tauber is under house arrest.
