Petru Rotaru leaves position of finance minister

Minister of Finance Petru Rotaru was proposed for the post of deputy governor of the National Bank of Moldova and is to be confirmed by Parliament, IPN reports.

“I thank Mr. Petru Rotaru for his work at the Ministry of Finance, his energetic contribution in the Government team and for the successful achievement of the objectives set by the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Moldova, related to the execution of the state budget. Petru has strengthened relations with the business community, the central public administration institutions and is a good friend of local communities,” said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

For its part, the National Bank of Moldova on Thursday morning announced that governor Anca Dragu submitted to Parliament the proposal to appoint Petru Rotaru as deputy governor of the central bank.

Petru Rotaru has held the position of Minister of Finance since 2023 and has extensive experience in the financial sector, demonstrating outstanding qualities throughout his career, the NBM said. “We are convinced that Mr. Rotaru’s experience, integrity and reputation will make a significant contribution to the fulfillment of the mission of the National Bank and to the consolidation of the financial system of Moldova,” stated Anca Dragu.

The proposal to appoint Petru Rotaru is to be put to the vote in Parliament. Until the confirmation of his candidacy in the legislature, Petru Rotaru will fulfill his duties as Minister of Finance.

Petru Rotaru was sworn in as Minister of Finance at the end of September 2023.
