The Government of Moldova does nothing to protect the information space of Moldova, director of the Association of Independent Press Petru Macovei said in the seminar “Eastern Partnership Initiative after the Riga Summit: expectations and perspectives”, IPN reports.
“No measures are being taken to protect the Moldovan media space, to ensure at least minimal protection. You all heard that Russia decided to allocate 7 billion rubles to two TV channels that propagate the Kremlin’s policy. One of these companies is privately owned. The Broadcasting Coordination Council banned the broadcasting of the TV channel “Rossia 24” on Moldova’s territory, but this decision is not fully respected. We see that the Government is unable to look into the more distant future,” stated Macovei.
Petru Macovei considers there are only long-term solutions in the created situation. “We can ban the retransmission of all the Russian TV channels, but this is not a way out. The only solutions are long-term ones and include the production of own alternative high-quality programs and the initiation of a campaign to stop the propaganda and manipulation and warn the people about these,” he stated.
The seminar was organized by the Foreign Policy Association in cooperation with the Embassy of Latvia in Chisinau.
