Moldova’s second President Petru Lucinschi said that false information about him has been recently disseminated through a number of news portals and TV channels with a ‘common coordination center’. “I refer to a number of untruths and things invented malevolently with the aim of diverting public opinion from the acute problems faced in the country and of avoiding responsibility for governance,” says a press statement issued by Petru Lucinschi, quoted by IPN.
The ex-head of state said it is almost 15 years since he left the post of President and, despite all the problems of that time, he left the country in peace and serenity. “Now more than ever, the Moldovan society needs peace, quietness and the union of all the healthy forces of the country. Moldova faces serious problems that were generated by the current rulers. These are not solved by manipulation and lie, but by hard work and devotion to the country. With insinuations and rumors that disseminate hatred, suspicions and disagreements between people, nothing good will be built,” stated Petru Lucinschi.
“The dirty campaigns launched by those who are now in power, by those with posts in the executive and with the right to take decisions in the legislature, show only one thing: the denigrators are aware that they cannot solve the problems created by them and thus try to cause hysteria in society and to direct the public opinion to a wrong path, that of hatred.”
Petru Lucinschi noted that after he left the post of head of state 15 years ago, he also left politics and worked in other areas. “Why didn’t you solve the problems that you ‘inherited’, as you say, 15 years ago? Why didn’t you liquidate them, but multiplied them and now, instead of having a dialogue with the people and propose solutions, you shift the blame on others? In my time, I made effort to change the system, to do a change for the better in my opinion. I addressed directly the voters and a national referendum showed that most of the people are for a presidential republic as form of government. But namely this people’s vote was blocked by persons who continue to sit in Parliament,” said the former head of state.
Petru Lucinschi concludes by saying that he believes in Moldova and its future and is sure that by joint efforts the difficulties experienced now can be overcome.
