Petru Lucinschi: A change of generations will start with current elections

Moldova’s second president Petru Lucinschi calls on the people to take an active part in the April 5 legislative elections and “support the emerging positive generation change trend”. Attending a news conference as invitee on March 30, he said that he expects the new generation to take over the power so as to change things to the better in Moldova and the older generation to support this positive trend, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The older people should understand that a change of generations is coming. This change will start at the current elections and we must allow the young people that coped with the divergences in the society for 18 years to come to power as they are very well prepared,” the former head of state said. According to him, Moldova witnesses strange things: we chose monocolor power. “They try to convince the people that politics means speaking about the country’s fate, the state of affairs and the prospects. Given that the politics is dirty, the people do not want to engage in discussing the situation in the country. The elections are a constitutional matter, an obligation of every person to express their right to vote. Therefore, the people should talk about the situation, especially because the undecided persons decide who they would vote for on the way to the polling place,” Petru Lucinschi said. He also said that the possibility that the elections could be rigged was repeatedly mentioned and the rigging methods are well-known. The former president urged all the parties taking part in the election campaign to understand that the elections could be rigged and to monitor the April 5 voting. Petru Lucinschi took part in the conference as invitee of the Congress of NGOs. The Congress’ chairman Fiodor Ghelici called on the people to go to the polls so as to avoid election rigging. According to Ghelici, this year the elections will be special because the ordinary people are hostile towards the politicians and the activities carried out by them during the election campaign, including concerts and fireworks, instead of using this money to help the people in need.
