Moldova’s second President who was elected by popular vote, Petru Luchinski, is sure the constitutional referendum will be successful even if the voter turnout is lower than expected. After having voted, Petru Luchinski told Info-Prim Neo that the people have been confused both by the Opposition and the parliamentary majority. The Opposition was telling the voters that the Alliance for European Integration is trying to preserve power at any cost and will not dissolve Parliament, while the governing alliance did not use a counterargument or did not know how to make it public. “It is a stage in Moldova’s development that is irreversible. There is no way back,” said Petru Luchinski. Speaking about the importance of the referendum, he said that Moldova returns to normality and the people regain the rights to which they are entitled according to the historical truth and traditions. “The political elite are not mature enough to elect the head of state in Parliament. Thus, the people will take their right to elect the President back,” Luchinski said.
